James Holzhauer is one of the Chasers in the American version of The Chase. He joined the show in January 2021, with the other Chasers, Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter. He is also a professional sports-gambler.

He was previously a contestant on the same version in 2014, and managed to defeat Mark "The Beast" Labbett with the team. He is also the seventh former contestant to become a Chaser worldwide, after Žarko Stevanović, Grażyna Werner, Manuel Hobiger, Thomas Kinne, Michal Sharon, and Darragh Ennis.

Holzhauer is best known for being a 32-time champion on Jeopardy! in 2019, where he accumulated $2,464,216. He currently holds the top 16 records for most cash won in a single episode on that show. And twice, he broke the single-day cash record; the first time, he won $110,914, and the second time, he broke his own record with $131,127.

Holzhauer also competed in the Jeopardy! Greatest of All Time Tournament and became a runner-up by inputing a wrong answer at the final match causing Ken Jennings to win the Tournament. He also competed in the Jeopardy! Masters Tournament and won in the first season and came in 3rd place in the 2nd season, causing to let Victoria Groce win. He competed in the Go Fact Your podcast in 2022 with Victoria Groce and won by being only one point ahead of her.
